The Pitfalls of Presenting the Salary Range – July 2009
When I say to you the temperature today is expected to reach 18 to 24
degrees, what do you think of?  I bet most of you had a vision of a
balmy 24 degrees.  The figure 18 was dismissed as fast as you can
say twenty-four.

So it goes when having preliminary discussions and first interviews
with candidates.  If we tell a candidate the position pays between
“75 to 85 thousand dollars”, selective hearing kicks in.  The candidate
hears “this position pays 85 thousand dollars” reinforced by the

Are You A Believer? – June 2009
There are two strong camps around the idea of Personality Profile Testing. Those who support the benefits of profile testing and those who believe they can gather all the information necessary from the interview.  

How often do you interview? What has your hiring track record been? Are there few others that meet the candidate for collaborative feedback? You can hire a great employee with out Personality Profile Testing but there are definitely times when it is nice to have additional information. read more...

New Ontario Employment Legislation Bill 139 Review – May 2009
Last week the Ontario Legislature passed a scaled down version of Bill 139. The sections requiring Severance payments for Temp or Contract workers, even if they are not on assignment were removed from the Bill. The proposed Bill and the final version should serve as a wake-up call for everyone who uses Temporary, Contact or Freelance workers. read more...
